THE TWITTERATI XI
Wojciech Szczesny @13Szczesny13
Arsenal's newest number one is a regular Tweeter. Likes to comment on all things football, and isn't shy about criticising his fellow professionals. Our favourite was the following about a certain ex-Gunners left-back. "Tweeps what do you think Ashley was aiming for when he took his penalty?"
Phil Neville @fizzer18
The more popular Neville is surprisingly funny about his team-mates. We love how he has brought dressing room banter into the public eye. He had this to say about Everton youngster Seamus Coleman, "r u licking captain robbie keanes arse like u lick captain nevilles?"
Rio Ferdinand (c) @rioferdy5
Gets the armband as he is not only the Premier League's most consistent Tweeter, but possibly the UK's number 1 celebrity on the site. Always entertaining, and with a diverse range of subjects from the recent War Crimes trial of Mladic to his fantastic 'Stay On Your Feet' movement. Setting the Twitter trend for celebs the world over.
Ashley Williams @AshWills84
Swansea's rock makes the list for his hilarious obsession with all things 'Malteaster.' The recently-shaven centre-back encourages his followers to post photographs of the Easter chocolate. Also his #GrowABeard movement is probably the reason behind Swansea's win in the play-offs.
Danny Simpson @dannysimpson12
Newcastle full-back who ticks all the boxes - always at Nandos, holidays in Vegas, and managing to team up with Joey Barton and Wayne Routledge to shut up Piers Morgan, which is something everyone would love to do. A solid player too who regularly recognises his fans and has understood the passion of the Geordie Nation. Top lad. "...tonight is gonna b lionel #messi"
Robbie Savage @RobbieSavage8
Maybe he shouldn't be here as he is now retired, but pushes Rio close in terms of the best Tweeting footaller. Another who loves to take the piss out of both himself and others, and has used Twitter to get his growing media career off the ground. Never a dull moment.

Joey Barton @Joey7Barton
When he opened the account, it was obvious he would be immediately entertaining. Good horse racing tips, and refreshingly honest opinions on the England team are usual subjects. His use of the site to aim a shot at the Newcastle hierarchy regarding his contract was a clever touch, effectively backing the club into a corner. A hero to the Geordie public, his account will no doubt be inundated with both messages of support and fierce criticism from fans of other clubs.
Jack Wilshere @jack_wilshere
England's new darling caught our attention ever since he uploaded a photo of himself eating his Christmas dinner. Priceless. Wilshere regularly keeps us updated on which of his fellow players are any good at FIFA, which is always entertaining.
Ryan Babel @RyanBabel
He's here for many reasons, and if you take a look at our previous SMH XI you'll be able to read more about his most famous Tweet - when he posted that photo of Howard Webb in a United shirt. Always commenting on music and fashion, classing himself as a bit of a style icon! Hmm...
Mikael Forssell @MikaelForssell
Now playing in Hannover, the Finnish striker made a name for himself at Chelsea and Birmingham here in the UK. His Tweets are always random and always hilarious, for example this gem from April, "OMG had the most awesome dream last night! Was ballin around brooklyn, New York with Jay-Z!Me and Hova...btw he told me I could call him that."
Wayne Rooney @WayneRooney
Wouldn't have made this list until he announced yesterday to the world about his hair transplant. His Twitter highlights include the famous 19 shaved into his chest, threatening to batter a fan and his weird American Idol obsession. "ll put u asleep within 10 seconds u little girl. Don't say stuff and not follow up on it. I'll be waiting."
